BGCDT celebrates its 22nd Anniversary this year with the new Jr. Youth of the Year Program! All elementary club sites competed in this program. Congratulations to Abigail B, from our Lakewood Elementary site, the 2019 Jr. Youth of the Year winner! Great job Abigail and to all the club site runner up finalists Karen from Golfview, Damian from Sunny Hill, Diannabella from Perry, Alexander from Meadowdale, Alesia from Parkview, and Klarissa from CMS.
Every site had their own competition that included between 15-20 members competing at their site. Each member had to state how club had affected their lives in various ways. A few examples were sharing their experiences, something about their life, an obstacle they had to face, how to make their community a better place, their strengths and skills, and finally what they wanted to be when they grew up.
The night included a few special guests as well. Kory Huges, our 2015 Youth of the Year gave a speech on what BGCDT has done and impacted his life. Our Jr. Staff, Zatoryia and Donesha ran their TWD and the Allstar Steppers dance program with their club members, and the The Valley of the Voices from Meadowdale, which is ran by our staff Ms. Lexi, made an appearance as well.
Our Mission here is to Nourish Character and Inspire Potential in all our members. For 22 years the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dundee Township has been doing just that. The BGCDT has had a huge impact our community. The Boys & Girls Clubs started in Carpentersville when gangs in Chicago were attempting to grow a presence in the suburbs. A group of concerned citizens partnered with the local police chief to begin our Boys & Girls Clubs. In 2018 we served over 3,000 children in Carpentersville. For only $25 a year, our members receive a safe place to go everyday after school. They receive help with school work, a hot meal, participate in educational and fun programs, and taught on how to be good leaders, good citizens, and excellent members of our community.
