On the last day of school 280 club members converged on to the Carpentersville Middle School track to compete in their different events.  Kids in grades 1-5 from all six elementary school sites (Golfview, Lakewood, Meadowdale, Parkview, Perry and Sunny Hill) participated in different events; 50m dash, 100m dash, 200m dash, 400m dash, softball throw, and the 4x100m relay.  This program started months before this exciting day, as members tried to see who would represent their club site at the event. Each team could send two competitors for each event which was split into subcategories based on grade and gender. After they were selected for their chosen event(s), members trained in the weeks leading up to their big day, and as they go of the bus at the track, you could see their excitement as raced down to the infield of the track. As they warmed up, friends and family members started to line the track in anticipation of the first race.  Steve Ehardt who works for Pepsico, the parent company of Gatorade, and a member for the board of directors of BGCDT, was the volunteer starter for the event and said “I could feel the energy and excitement as they went to the starting line.” BGCDT Board President Mark Krueger, brought his family out to volunteer for the event. “This is great event” he said, “I was at the finish line and to see the determination on their faces, and all of the fans cheering them on was incredible”.   After the events were completed all of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers received their medal and their recognition on the podium.  Thank you to all of the volunteers that came out to the event from Pepsico, Zurich, Centegra, and board members.
