Mmm who doesn't like Guacamole made from scratch?! Or how about freshly made salsa? Now throw in some tacos and you have yourself the perfect meal to celebrate Cinco De Mayo! That is just what took place at the Teen Center. We incorporated fresh cooking for Cinco De Mayo into our healthy habits program. We would like to thank Vince for preparing the tacos and another special thanks to our very own Claritza who made fresh salsa. Our members, Jaquan, Jala, and Destiny made the guacamole and boy did it taste great!
Thirty club members representing grades 1st - 5th from all six elementary sites participated inthe the 8th Annual BGCDT Elementary Spelling Bee. The thirty finalists, first had to compete at their local club site to win the right to represent their grade and school at the Spelling Bee, held at the Dundee Township Park District Senior Center. Club members from Golfview, Lakewood, Meadowdale. Parkview, Perry,and Sunny Hill spelled words that included "environment", "inquisitive", and "giraffe".
The Barrington Area Community Foundation recently awarded a $10,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dundee Township in support of the Sunny Hill Elementary Club Unit. The funds will support the expansion of the program in Fall 2017.
The Awards Reception was held on Thursday, April 20th at the Garlands in Barrington. BGCDT CEO, Curt McReynolds, and VP of Programs, Amalia Woolf, accepted the award.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Dundee Township and Centegra teamed up to partner on the launch of a pilot fitness program, called “Centegra Kids In Motion”. The program was designed for youth ages 7 – 13 and focuses on the empowering youth to lead a healthy lifestyle.
Heather Klaus, Wellness Manager at Centegra, spearheaded the program with several staff from Cenegra. The Centegra team incorporated yoga, group dance and nutrition activities throughout the program.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Dundee Township welcomed Ezra Holland, CEO & Founder of the Holland Group, for a Staff Development & Training Seminar on Martin Luther King Day. Nearly 65 BGCDT employees participated in the Development Seminar that featured hands-on training and techniques in creative play, effective guidance, and discipline and leadership development.
The Parkview BGCDT Club Unit recently hosted a great partnership event with 30 Executives from Centegra to construct over 60 blankets for Project Linus. Centegra Executives teamed up with the 3rd grade Club members from Parkview as part of an annual charitable holiday event to make special blankets, through Project Linus, that would be distributed to children spending Christmas at Centegra Hospital.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Dundee Township is experiencing record growth in our Teen Membership, currently up 40% from last year. Along with serving more Teens, the Teen Program is busy with giving back to the local community…even random acts of kindness to those in need.
The mission of the Board “Blitz” Challenge, held annually in the Fall, is to promote Board Members to visit our BGCDT Club Units, while participating in a scoring format that rewards points for each visit that a Board Member completes at a BGCDT Club Unit during a two-week time frame in October.
It’s no secret that the real magic of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dundee Township is the staff that occupy our Clubs, working tirelessly with our at-risk youth on a daily basis. We are fortunate to announce that twenty (20) part-time employees celebrated an anniversary with our organization over the months of August & September.
Ten (10) of our part-time staff celebrated 3 years or more and three (3) staff members celebrated anniversaries of over 8 years with the organization, which is tremendous and a true testament to the character of our collective staff.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Dundee Township recently hosted both the 1st & 2nd place teams (First STEP & MALEBOX) from the Dundee Crown High School INCubator Program. The INCubator Program is a business course offered at Dundee Crown High School that allows students to develop a new business concept, led by a local community business leader, in an effort to earn actual start-up revenue from local investors.
